John Hill spent the spring in pursuit of one particular fish. This resides in a low stocked small pit that is notoriously tricky. After several sessions of baiting and watching, unfortunately the fish came out to another angler. A bit deflated he carried on and found an absolute money spot which he’d watched the fish using. Having had a productive spring on the infamous white swan, one fish in particular was on Daz’s list. At 4.30am his alarm woke him to see an absolute jacuzzi going off over his couple of kg of shrimp. Having fished a couple of nights his eyes were too heavy and he drifted back off. At 7.30am he woke again and all the activity had subsided and he thought the chance had melted away, but at 8am a slow steady take was followed by a heavy battle in the weed. Getting a ticket on the famous St.Ives complex Gaz Jones wasted no time wetting some lines. His first few sessions we successful catching fish to 28ib. On this particular trip he decided to give em some grub. Spreading healthy amounts of freshwater shrimp with the stick at the back of a bar he then deployed 3 hinges over the top. Although coming out late in the draw Baz was in a peg he wanted. A quite corner which he’d seen some better fish. In true Baz fashion within about 2 hours he had a bite and a 62ib mirror was being hoisted up for its picture. Simple tactics and baiting keeping disturbance to a minimum. Although not a record like the last post, this was a Pb brace for Dan. Fishing recently at the famous Carpasens. After being lucky enough to get a double take, Dan played one and left the other as you do. Little did he know the one he played was an upper 30 mirror and the one on the rest tight, was attached to a 57Ib common Thankfully both were landed. On cloud 9 over the Pb common, the rods were redeployed and 3 more spombs of both freezer and stabilised shrimp were accurately deposited. We sat to have a beer Continue reading

Dale Skidmore headed for a session at Old Mill Lakes but not in his wildest dreams did he expect what happened next. He went on to land nearly 30 fish but that figure was eclipsed by 125Ib of carp in 2 bites!! The big common at 64 and riggers at 61 make this the biggest ever brace of fish caught in U.K. A record that was already held at Old Mill just cementing this impressive venue further in to the record books. Dintons white swan is no push over water but Darren Blunt is one of the most consistent anglers on there. He certainly has a nack of getting bites. Although a tricky spring he managed his fair few including this chunky mirror. His own simple rigs, excellent water craft and cork ball hookbaits over a good helping of our shrimp.
